R Lobectomy
Acquired absence of lung [part of]
VATS lobectomies are performed on patients with clinical stage I lung cancer assessed by computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET). The procedure is usually performed for tumors less than 4 cm in maximum diameter, but we have resected tumors as large as 6.5 cm. If you’ve had a lobectomy, the most common form of lung cancer surgery, your body is getting used to functioning with less lung tissue. That’s a major operation, and healing will take time. Just how much time will depend on the extent of the surgery, whether it’s performed minimally invasively, and your age and overall fitness. Thoracoscopic lobectomy is designed to achieve the same oncologic result as conventional lobectomy: complete hilar dissection and individual vessel control. The recognized advantages of thoracoscopic anatomic resection include less short-term postoperative pain, shorter hospital stay, and preserved pulmonary function. BACKGROUND: Lobectomy is the current standard operation for localized lung cancer. Patients who undergo lobectomy have a 1% to 2% chance per year of developing a second lung cancer. The risks of repeat lung resection have not been well quantified or analyzed.

Note- Z codes represent reasons for encounters. A corresponding procedure code must accompany a Z code if a procedure is performed. Categories Z00-Z99 are provided for occasions when circumstances other than a disease, injury or external cause classifiable to categories A00-Y89 are recorded as 'diagnoses' or 'problems'. This can arise in two main ways:
- (a) When a person who may or may not be sick encounters the health services for some specific purpose, such as to receive limited care or service for a current condition, to donate an organ or tissue, to receive prophylactic vaccination (immunization), or to discuss a problem which is in itself not a disease or injury.
- (b) When some circumstance or problem is present which influences the person's health status but is not in itself a current illness or injury.
